Accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 University of Technology, Jamaica 68 Accreditation UCJ’s Grant of Equivalency of Bachelor of Laws (LLB) On November 9, 2018, the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) communicated its decision to grant equivalence of the LLB degree to those students who graduated from the Faculty of Law during the period 2011 – 2015. Equivalency Status means that all degrees granted in the period are to be regarded as having the same status as the Faculty of Law’s LLB which was accredited by the UCJ. Short Course - Labour Law The Faculty of Law hosted its first short course on Labour Law on March 22, 2019 at the Papine Campus. The internal presenters included: Mrs. Shuana- Kaye Smith, Ms. Shanice Towers, and Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa. The external presenters were Ms. Tanya Ralph and Ms. Nicole Roberts, as well as, a representative from Tax Administration Jamaica. The course was oversubscribed and saw thirty-five participants from a number of large establishments and corporations as well as small businesses from across the island. International Mooting Module The newmodule, International Mooting, LLB3022, was developed and offered in Semester 2 as a Programme Elective. Law Boot Camp for Norman Manley Entry The Faculty in collaboration with the President’s Office, hosted a Boot Camp to prepare students of the Faculty for the entrance examination for Norman Manley Law School. This was held at the Faculty of Law Papine and Montego Bay campuses over two weekends during the period July 3 -18, 2018. International Mooting Competition The Faculty participated in the International Human Rights Mooting Competition in Washington DC in May 2018. The FOL team consisting of Lorna Gooden, Daniean McCulloch and Denise Allen was trained by Mr Ricardo Sandcroft. Three students from the Faculty, namely: Mr. Daniean McCulloch, Ms. Jesicuese James and Mr. Ainsworth Levy as well as Mr. Raun Barrett, Coach, participated in the Caribbean Court of Justice Mooting Court Competition in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on March 21, -22, 2019. Despite a commendable performance and commendation for their skeleton arguments, the score resulted in a tie between UTech, Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa Dean Faculty of Law
