Accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 University of Technology, Jamaica 65 UTech, Jamaica, Professor Stephen Vasciannie and Mr. Robert Clarke, Group General Manager (Acting), PCJ at a ceremony held at the University’s Papine Campus. Training was delivered by a team of UTech, Jamaica experts in its School of Engineering, Drs Therese Chambers, Paul Campbell and Mr. Kirkland Rowe through three (3) three-day workshops held in July, September and October 2018. Participants benefitted from practical, hands-on training in areas including the Value of Energy Management, the Principles of Energy Management, Components of an Energy Audit, Energy Planning and Preparing Energy Management Reports. Participants also conducted a walk through energy audit of an assigned area to identify Energy Saving Opportunities (ESO), conducted analyses and made recommendations. PCJ-UTech, Ja Internship Programme Between May and July 2018, six hundred and fifty (650) young individuals from varying social, academic and economic backgrounds participated in an internship programme developed for them by University and the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica. Over three-week intervals, participants were immersed in intensive training in technical areas including Construction, Chemical, Electromechanical, Baking Technologies, Food Preparation, Land Surveying and Robotics, as well as areas that focussed on the development and appreciation of life and social skills. MoU with Elhydro Inc The University, through the School of Engineering, and Elhydro Inc., (of White Plains New York and Montego Bay St. James) signed the Memorandum of Understanding on October 2, 2018. This MOU will see a collaboration of both entities as they relate to research and development of Biodiesel/fuels, and Castor Plant production and its by-products, Renewables including Hydrogen Generation, and other associated or agreed upon products and service development in Jamaica. Integral in the development of this MOU and the collaboration are Prof. Nilza Aples, Dean FENC and Ms Paula Henry, Director Chemical, Agricultural and Biological Engineering. Launch of Network Security Virtual Lab initiative - with Fortinet Security The SCIT commenced a teaching and learning virtual lab in Computing and Network Security using the Fortinet Academy certification standards. The focus was geared at getting staff and students to become certified and trained in the introductory topics of computing and network security including wireless security and firewall monitoring.
