Accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 University of Technology, Jamaica 59 Postoperative Instructions and Oral Hygiene Instructions. More than 5000 patients were treated for the 2018/19 fiscal year. An average of 80 patients were treated at each outreach and approximately 70 outreach activities were conducted for the year. Outreach activities were conducted in Kingston & St. Andrew, St. Catherine, St Ann, St Elizabeth, St James, Clarendon, St Thomas, Portland, and Trelawny. Miss Carla Gabiddon, Clinical Instructor and Miss Valrie McKenzie, Lecturer participated in the 6th Trelawny Infirmary Outreach along with a group of dental hygiene and dental assisting students provided dental treatment to residents of the infirmary in August 2018. The College collaborated with the Western Campus, UTech, Jamaica. Several items were donated, resulting from the efforts of the team, which included a commercial washing machine through donations from the UTech, Ja. Foundation valued at over Three Hundred Thousand Dollars ($300,000). School of Public Health and Health Technology Local and International Collaborations Master’s in Public Health (MPH) Professor Homero Silva was suddenly deceased and the position of Program Director for the MPH programme was taken over by the Head of School Prof Winston Davidson. The progr amme col laborated wi th agencies to enable field placement of students during the year. This provided opportunities for students to be exposed to practical areas during their course of study and preparation of their theses. Students were under the supervision of trained preceptors and presented reports based on their work and observations. The sites include Ministry of Health, Regional Health Authorities, Bureau of Standards, Diabetes Association of Jamaica, National Environmental and Protection Agency, National Water Commission and Kingston Port Authority. Occupational Health Safety and Environ- mental Management (BSc. OHSEM) BSc.EH (Environmental Health) The following agencies provided opportunities for BSc.EH students to be exposed to practical areas of environmental health: Regional Health Authorities, KSA Abattoir, Jamaica Broilers, Caribbean Broilers, Serge Island Dairies and Catherine Peak Water Bottling Company. Advisory/Consultancy Pan American Health Organization Dr. Marcia Thelwell-Reid was contracted by PAHO/WHO to serve as consultant for the UN – Water Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking Water (GLAAS) Survey for Jamaica during the Period November 7 – December 21, 2018. Community Service y The BSc. EH staff coordinated student final year community projects geared towards solving four major environmental health problems in 32 communities across Jamaica, namely– poor solid waste management, poor excreta disposal, mosquito infestation and rodent infestation. The strategies employed were health education, community organization and participation, and intersectoral collaboration. All 32 communities experienced improved environmental health status. y BSc. PHN students collaborated with the Jones Town Baptist church to provide nutritional and other health advice and screening services to senior citizens from that community.
