Campus), was held on March 27, 2019 at the Jamaica Conference Centre, under the theme: “Sustaining Competitive Advantage through Human Capital Development”. The keynote speaker for the plenary session was Dr. Rickert Allen, Senior General Manager, Group Human Resources & Facilities Division, National Commercial Bank Limited. The Students’ Conference (Western Campus) was held on March 19, 2019 at the Iberostar Rosehall Resort, under the theme “Technology Innovation: The Key to Organizational Performance and Profitability”. Guest speakers included Mrs. Geneieve Harty, Branch Manager at Barita Investments, Mrs. Sheena Reid, AVP-Digital Transformation at Victoria Mutual Building Society and Dr. Marcia Forbes, Executive Chairperson and Co-Founder of Phase 3 Productions. SHTM - SHTM participated in the 2018 staging of the annual Table Talk Jamaica Observer Food Awards 2018 on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Devon House, Kingston, Jamaica. - The School participated in the Festival of Food 55th Anniversary which held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, August 2018. The School was recognized by way of a plaque from the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) for the many years of contribution to the culinary arts. - SHTM hosted the Caribbean Broilers’ Launch of its 4th Annual Jamaica Food & Drink Festival on September 27, 2018 at the hotel training facility. - The School participated in the series of events held by CB Foods ‘Jamaica Food & Drink Festival 2018’. The organizers asked SHTM to prepare the dessert items for these events as they were impressed with those served at the launch. A special appreciation is extended to Ms. Lyn-Cook who coordinated the event and Ms. Shani Levy who coached the students in preparing the dessert items. International Linkages • Five applications were submitted for students interested in the Canadian Student Exchange Programme, four of which were for Brandon University and one for the University of Prince Edward Island. All five applicants were accepted at the respective universities. • As per the Memorandum of Understanding established with the Institute of Technology and Advance Learning / Humber College, the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) welcomed the visit of Mr. Ramesh Srinivasan to Jamaica between February 24, 2019 and March 2, 2019. Mr. Srinivasan is Professor and Program Coordinator of Bachelor of Commerce – Hospitality and Tourism Management. His itinerary included a research discussion session with the SHTM faculty, two Wine Appreciation Seminars with SHTM faculty, staff and students, dinner with the Exchange Students (UTech, Jamaica) and Humber students currently on the exchange programme at SHTM, UTech Ja. He also made a courtesy visit to the Sandals Plantation Resort. This was followed by a two-day Wine Appreciation Seminar with industry personnel at the Cardiff Hotel in Runaway Bay. This phase was sponsored by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF). Community Service • The CAPE Entrepreneurship Lecture was held for high school students and involved 300 students from 18 high schools. • In an effort to continue to build a culture of volunteerism in the School of Business Administration, the Community Service Committee executed two successful projects, which included the refurbishment of the Rising Sun Basic School and the painting of bathrooms at Christ the King Basic School. These projects were executed on May 23, 2018 with the assistance of both academic and administrative staff.
