The project results were presented at the United Nations High Level meeting held in New York. Video of Jamaica’s fuel economy was featured at a special reception hosted by the GFEI Programme Director. Green Certification CSEII participated in the pilot phase of the Green Business Jamaica (GBJ) programme. The scope of the Pilot Phase of the GBJ Programme, focused on the Papine and Dome Street campuses. The areas of strength for the University are Environmental Awareness and Training, Solid Waste Management and Energy Efficiency and Conservation”. Dr. Ruth Potopsingh – AVP Sustainable Energy at UTech, Jamaica accepts the Recognition of Participation award from Honorable Daryl Vaz, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation at the National Green Expo, June 7-9, 2019. Local and International Linkages and Collaborations The CSEII continued to deepen its relationship with the CARICOM Energy Desk and participated in the sixth Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum in Belize under the theme, Clean Energy, Good Governance and Regulations. The forum was in support of the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in the Caribbean – transforming the energy and transport sector towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient future. During the period, meetings were used to strategize the Caribbean Region’s approaches to expanding its renewable energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A major development during the year was the creation of a Regional Universities Networking (RUN) Forum whose overall objective is to facilitate open dialogue among key representatives within the CARIFORUM and Cuba network of regional universities on energy. Other collaborations included internships by the Masters of Science in Sustainable Energy and Climate Change (MSSECC) students at the Climate Change Innovation Centre. Caribbean Sustainable Energy & Innovation Institute Through its Energy Monitoring and Auditing Team (EMAT) initiative under the Community Service Programme, approximately 30 students were trained in energy conservation and environmental stewardship. Students shared their knowledge with fellow students and neighbouring school, Shady Grove Basic School.
