Accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 University of Technology, Jamaica 13 DIVISION OF STUDENT SERVICES AND REGISTRY, OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR Second Septennial Review The Consultants from FocalPoint Consulting Ltd. continued activities aimed at fulfilling the University’s mandate, outlined in the University Act, of conducting a Septennial Review. The Consultants submitted the Final Second Septennial Review Report on April 4, 2018 and made a presentation on their findings on May 18, 2018 to a special joint meeting of the Governance Committee and Council. At the joint meeting, the Consultants were asked to make adjustment to the final report. This revised report was received on June 19, 2018. Subsequent to receipt of the final Report, the Second Septennial Review Secretariat concluded closing- down operations of the short-term consultancy project on June 29, 2018. Student Recruitment The Student Recruitment Unit coordinated over 44 high school visits, 3 corporate visits and participated in 5 Expo/College Fairs over the period. The Unit also organized the annual open days in Papine and Montego Bay. Open House The 2018 UTech, Jamaica annual Open House was held September 25 in Kingston and Thursday, September 27 in Montego Bay under the theme “Find Your Place at the Birthplace of Greatness.” Over 1,500 students from 35 high schools participated in Kingston and over 200 from 12 schools participated in Montego Bay. Office of the Assistant Registrar - Western Campus The appointment of an Admissions and Enrolment Coordinator for the Western Campus was realized in December 2018. Throughout the period several initiatives were advanced for the benefit of the students. These included Peer Counsellor training done in collaboration with the Counselling Unit, the Mentorship Programme in collaboration with the Career and Placement Unit and Graduate Attributes and Empowerment Sessions. The Mentorship Programme 2018/9 was endorsed by the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Committee Support The University Secretariat continued to support the work of the University Council and the Academic Board - the main governance bodies of the University. The work of several standing and Ad Hoc committees of the Council were also addressed, specifically: Council Membership Selection, Governance, Human Resources, University Appointments and Promotions, Honorary Degrees and Other Awards, as well as other Mrs Mercedes Deane University Registrar Students viewing exhibition booths at Open House 2018 held in Montego Bay.
