Accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 University of Technology, Jamaica 106 106 from a participative “bottom up” approach. The Plan was approved by the Council at its retreat held on November 19, 2018. Training was provided for the Council on the Balanced Scorecard methodology, which will be used to monitor and report on performance against the Plan. Change in Membership of Council In keeping with the requirements of the UTech, Jamaica Act (No 27 of 1999) Statute XII sections 1(b)iv and (v), the Council approved the continued representation on the Council, of the Jamaica Institution of Engineers and the Jamaica Bankers Association, respectively as the Professional Body and the Private Sector Body for the new tenure of the Council which took effect on September 9, 2019. Mrs. Bridget Johnson-Smith joined the Council in December 2018 as the newly elected representative of the UAWU, the Union which represents the Technical and Ancillary staff on the Council. She replaced Mrs. Stancy Mighty-Dixon who had served for ten years. New or revised Governance Instruments During the reporting period, focus was given to the review of critical governance instruments. The Terms of Reference of the Student Affairs and Human Resources Committees and, Regulation 3: “Academic Progress and Granting of Awards for Undergraduate Students” were reviewed and updated.
