University of Technology, Jamaica “Pioneering Past; Bright Future ” ANNUAL REPORT 2017-2018 34 y A total of 305 final year students and 28 graduates registered to participate in the fair. This showed a 20% increase in participation when compared to the previous reporting period. y A total of eight (8) exhibitors participated in the 2018 fair. This generated a total of $113,000.00 JMD in registration fees. y Donations were received from 12 companies including: Red Stripe, Mega Mart, Lasco, Tony Thwaites, Country Traders, Optical Solutions, Digicel, National Commercial Bank, Internet Income, Jamaica Biscuit Company and World Brand. Donations consisted of 21 gift baskets, mobile phone credit valued at $15,000.00, two (2) 12 X 16 Cake and three (3) gift certificates. y The main donor, Nestle Jamaica, donated gift packages along with 120 T-Shirts to outfit our student volunteers and 35 oxford shirts for UTech, Ja. Staff. y Through the feedback survey, it was established that 27.3% of the students were shortlisted for a second interview. Candidates were also asked to rate the overall experience of the fair; 72% percent of the respondents indicated that the experience was excellent and 28% indicated that it was good. Mentorship Programme y The 2017/18 Mentorship programme consisted of 148 mentors and 148 mentees. Mentor and mentee recruitment has increased by 51%. y The 2017/2018 Mentorship Programme commenced with the staging of its 9 th Annual Mentor Workshop on September 13, 2017 under the theme: “Build Character, Build Network, Grow Professionally”. The workshop was geared at reinforcing the expectations of the programme and developing mentoring skills among persons interested in being a part of the programme. A total of 48 mentors were in attendance. This represents a 71% increase when compared to the last period; which reported a total of 28 participants in attendance. y The Western Campus launched its inaugural mentorship programme on November 7, 2017 with twenty one mentors and twenty one 21 mentees. Employment Empowerment Session y A total of 16 sessions were held over both semesters at the Papine Campus. Semesters one and two had 557 and 772 students in attendance respectively. The sessions were mainly focused on entrepreneurship and building a strong business foundation as a college student. y The Unit closed the Employment Empowerment Sessions on March 8, 2018 for semester two for the academic year 2017-2018. The topics covered in the session were: Build that Portfolio, Dress For Success, Resume & Cover Letter Writing, Ace the Interview, Business Etiquette Leadership, Social Media & You! Reputation Management & Job Fair Sensitization. Graduate Tracer Study /Job Placement Data Job Applicants The office received 283 new applicants for the reporting period.
