University of Technology, Jamaica “Pioneering Past; Bright Future ” ANNUAL REPORT 2017-2018 33 Interns from the University - Germany The Career and Placement Unit coordinated and hosted nine students from the University of Applied Labour Studies of the Federal Employment Agency Germany, between June 19 – July 31, 2017. The students completed their internship at UTech, Ja., UWI Mona, VTDI and the Ministry of Labour. Mock Interviews The Career and Placement Unit conducted its annual Mock Interviews for 2018 for a one week period from February 26- March 2, 2018. Twenty six interviewers; fifty percent of were from corporate Jamaica, both private and public sectors participated. The remaining interviewers were from the UTech, Ja. community. One hundred and thirty four (134) students participated in this exercise. Fit to Recruit 2018 The Career and Placement Unit’s Fit to Recruit 2018 initiative saw 26 male students being fully suited and ready for the annual Career and Job Fair. The initiative was made possible with the help of our donors . These were NCB Foundation, G.K General Insurance, HANZAC Limited (Joseph’s) and the UTech, Ja. Alumni Association. Dress for Success Over the years students have benefitted significantly from the largesse of the volunteer organization, “Dress for Success”. This year a total of 24 female final year students were outfitted with professional attire in preparation for the annual Career and Job fair held on March 16, 2018. Annual Career and Job Placement Fair y The Career and Placement Unit hosted its Annual Career and Job Placement Fair on March 16, 2018 under the theme, “Advancing into the world of work”, at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium at the Papine Campus. A total of 51 companies registered to participate. This reflected a 11% increase from last year’s 46 registered companies. Forty (40) of the 51 registered companies participated in the event.
