Hotel Four Seasons, Kingston, Jamaica. • Dr. Shermaine Barrett, Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies and Vice President (Caribbean ) of the International Council for Adult Education was invited a make a presentation as a panelist at a UN General Assembly side event held on Wednesday 20 th September, 2017 in New York. This event was convened by the Global Campaign for Education, Education International, and the Global Alliance for Tax Justice, and was held in alliance with ActionAid, RESULTS Educational Fund, Light for the World, the International Council for Adult Education, Oxfam, and the Open Society Foundations. • The theme of the event was ‘Sustainably Financing Education’. Dr. Barrett spoke specifically on “Financing Education to ensure Quality and Equity” with a specific focus on educating adult learners. The aim of the event was to put the spotlight on domestic financing for education, and to build momentum towards international action to enable national governments to deliver. On this basis, the objectives of the event were to: • Appraise overall trends and specific cases regarding education financing of SDG4 across different continents. • Explore in-depth strategies to increase domestic financing and international cooperation for education as well as reforms to tax systems. • Recommend ways to increase financing for SDG4. • Andrew P. Smith has been awarded a grant from the Getty Foundation and the ICOMOS Victoria Falls Fund - ICOMOS International, to represent Jamaica at the 19 th  General Assembly & Scientific Symposium of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). It will be held in Delhi, India from December 11 to 15, 2017. • Andrew P. Smith presented a paper entitled “ Using Photography to Determine Knowledge, Attitudes and Perceptions towards Heritage Sites: The Case of Buff Bay” at the 2017 Edna Manley College/Rex Nettleford Arts Conference on Thursday October 12, 2017. • Dr. Kai A. Barratt presented a paper entitled “The Performance of #AzaSefu by Fay Ann Lyons-Alvarez on Instagram” on the Carnival Aesthetics, Commercialization and Identity panel at the Rex Nettleford Arts Conference hosted by Edna Manley College on Friday October 13, 2017. • Dr. Cynthia Onyefulu made a presentation at The 3rd Biennial Statistics Symposium, Kingston, Jamaica held from October 24-27, 2017. The title of her presentation was “ Assessing the Views of Students in Selected Tertiary Institutions in Jamaica on Ethical Considerations in Data Analysis .” • Dr. Cynthia Onyefulu was Guest Speaker University of Technology, Jamaica “Pioneering Past; Bright Future ” ANNUAL REPORT 2017-2018 219 Appendices
