Second Septennial Review Committee According to the University of Technology, Jamaica Act (No. 27) of 1999, Statute XII Section 13, Council is required to appoint a Committee every seventh year to examine whether and the extent to which the University is fulfilling its functions. The Second Septennial Review Committee (SSRC) was established by Council at its meeting held on July 28, 2014. The Committee has 17 members external to the University and with various types of expertise. It is chaired by Professor John Wood, Secretary General of the Association of Commonwealth Universities; Mrs. Janet Morrison, Attorney-at-Law is Deputy Chair. The Second Septennial Review will be conducted by a short-term consultancy, procured through an open tender process and will be supported by a project office established by the University. The Review will cover the period 2006–2013 and the Consultants will, in addition, review the University’s performance over the period 2013–2015. The Review is scheduled for completion in December 2017. In preparation for the Review, sensitisation activities have been initiated by the University to engage internal and external stakeholders who will be critical to the success of the Second Septennial Review and by extension the strategic direction of the University. Student Recruitment The Student Recruitment Unit identifies prospective students and undertakes various recruitment activities to increase student enrolment. These activities include recording and responding to prospect enquires, visiting schools and attending career fairs and participating in college fairs in Jamaica and overseas. Representatives of the Student Recruitment Unit and representatives from the College/Faculties visited and made presentations to 45 high schools, and Community Colleges and participated at 11 expo/ college fairs over the period. The Unit also promotes the University through other student recruiting activities, including campus tours and the University’s annual Open House events at the Papine and Montego Bay campuses. The annual Open House was held on Tuesday, September 30, 2015, in Kingston and Thursday, October 1, 2015 in Montego Bay under the theme “ Discover Your Purpose”. Over 1,500 students from 45 high schools participated in Kingston and over 400 from 12 schools participated in Montego Bay.
