DIVISION OF STUDENT SERVICES & REGISTRY OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR Governor General Par ticipates in AGM of Council The University welcomed His E x c e l l e n c y t h e Mo s t Honorable Sir Patrick Allen, ON, GCMG, CD, Governor General, in his c apac i t y as Visitor, UTech, Jamaica to the Papine campus on Monday, April 20, 2015. During his visit, His Excellency participated in the Annual General Meeting of Council and a special ceremony for the Conferment of the Honorary Doctor of Technology on The Most Honourable Errald Miller, FCGI. Under the University of Technology, Jamaica Act, 1999 the Governor General or his designate from time to time in exercise of the visitorial authority “may direct an inspection of the University, its buildings, laboratories and general work, equipment and of the examination, teaching and other activities of the University and hear matters referred to him by the Council.” The Chancellor, the Most Hon. Edward Seaga, ON, PC in welcoming The Visitor for the first time at the Annual General Meeting of Council, noted that he was extremely honoured that by way of his presence, he was demonstrating his interest in the work of the University and its Council. In emphasizing his keen interest in tertiary education for Jamaica’s advancement, the Governor General said that he was looking forward to continuing to support efforts in which UTech, Jamaica could achieve its mission, and issued a challenge to the University to “turn institutional challenges into institutional opportunities.” Dr. Elaine Wallace University Registrar His Excellency (centre) poses for a group photograph with members of UTech, Jamaica’s Council.
