project management framework as the first stage of establishing a business planning approach for distance learning. The framework is being developed in collaboration with the School of Computing and Information Technology to manage the processes of designing, developing and delivering online courses towards specified productivity and financial targets. The initiative to implement online assessments as alternative examination options for students, enrolled in fully online modules and/or courses of study has been led by Associate VP Bartley-Bryan. At the request of the College of Health Sciences, a pilot was undertaken with eight students of the online Post Diploma in Pharmacy doing their mid-semester exam online for Introduction to Psychology module in July 2015. The ODL is currently using the pilot experience to develop the policy and procedures for online examinations. Templates for conducting distance learning gap analyses and institutional readiness surveys were created during the period to ensure that the University is adequately prepared to meet the accreditation requirements of the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ). The templates were developed to reflect the national standards for distance learning, which were developed by the University Council of Jamaica in 2014. Upgrading of Technology Systems The capacity and functionality of the UTechOnline Learning Management System was strengthened in August 2015 with the upgrade of the system to MOODLE version 2.8 by the Learning Technology Support Unit. Distance Learning Forum The monthly Distance Learning (DL) Forum series commenced on February 4, 2016 with a showcase of basic online and low threshold applications used by UTech, Jamaica instructors to enhance teaching and learning. These applications included WhatsApp, Kahoot, Checklist, EduCreation & Powtoon. Additional DL forums held during the semester focused on the topics: • UTech, Jamaica Distance Learning: From Design to Delivery • How to Create Quizzes in UTechOnline Using the Hot Potato Plug-In • Use of Digital Badges for Student Recognition and Reward.
