UTech, Jamaica 2015-16 Annual Report

Showcasing UTech, Jamaica’s Technology Resources for Distance Learning The monthly Distance Learning (DL) Forum series commenced on February 4, 2016 with a showcase of basic online and low threshold applications used by UTech, Jamaica instructors to enhance teaching and learning. These applications included WhatsApp, Kahoot, Checklist, EduCreation & Powtoon. Additional DL forums held during the semester focused on the topics of: • UTech, Jamaica Distance Learning: From Design to Delivery • How to Create Quizzes in UTechOnline Using the Hot Potato Plug-In • Use of Digital Badges for Student Recognition and Reward. • Partnerships/MOUs/Academic Collaboration  The Co-operative Education Unit strengthened its collaboration with the Office of International and Institutional Linkages to enable international Co-op Ed student exchanges with overseas universities.  Canadian Student Exchange Programme In keeping with the College of Business & Management’s efforts to continue its collaborative partnership with the University of Prince Edward Island and Brandon University, eight students were nominated from SOBA and six (6) students from SHTM for Humber College to participate in the Canada- CARICOM Leadership Scholarships Program 2016/17, which is offered by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development and administered by the Canadian Bureau for International Education. 1.0 NEW PROGRAMMES, COURSES OF STUDY, POLICIES AND POLICY GUIDELINES The following courses of study were approved by the Academic Board: • The Bachelor of Science in Animation Production and Development • Revised BSc. in Science & Education • Part-Time 5-Year Courses of Study (BBA, BSc. Administrative Management, BSc. Economics, BSc. Accounting and Articulation Arrangements for the BBA) • Revised Operational Guidelines for Independent Study • Revised Regulation 5: Conditions & Procedures Governing Student Academic Misconduct 3.0 UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES 3.1 Existing Undergraduate Programmes: For the 2015/16 academic year, there were 1,888 graduates from undergraduate courses of study as follows: Qualification Number Certificates 24 Associate Degrees 15 Diplomas 64 First Class Honours 46 Upper Second Class Honours 285 Lower Second Class Honours 669 Pass 785 Bachelor of Sciences (total) 1785 Total 1888 3.2 External Examiners The following courses of study had appointments/ re-appointments of External Examiners: • BSc.
