Community College Transfer Students

Students who complete Year 1 of a UTech programme in a Community College are required to complete CSP 1001 in the Community College. All regulations governing the completion of CSP1001 on the UTech Campus will apply to the Community Colleges. Students transferred to UTech will have these grades applied to their course of study.

Programme Requirements

  • All full-time students are required to take CSP 1001 in Year 1 either in Semester 1 or Semester 2.
  • CSP 1001 consists of 40 hours of practical community service in any one approved agency and five contact classroom hours
  • Students may work with an agency/project chosen by their school or may choose a project of their own. However, projects have to be officially approved by the CSP1001 school coordinator.
  • In the five classroom hours students will examine the practical community service experience in the context of a) the philosophy underlying the community service programme (CSP1001) and b) the relevance of other required General Education, Communication, Psychology or Sociology courses.
  • Evaluation: The programme culminates in a written project report and students are awarded a Pass/Fail grade based on their performance in the agency, the classroom and on the written report.
  • CSP1001 will not be counted for determining promotion to year two (2). However, students are encouraged to complete it by the end of year two (2).
  • Students repeating CSP1001 will be required to pay to re-do the module community service.

Criteria for Pass Grade

  1. Completion of the forty five (45) contact hours required: forty (40) hours in the agency and five (5) hours in classes.
  2. Report from the agency stating that the student’s performance has been satisfactory.
  3. Final Report deemed “satisfactory” by the CSP Coordinator.
